Understand and drawing Form module   |   2023   |   confusion  unraveling

Understanding form, understanding of organic shapes from the lenses of geometry and patterns and learning about fineness .

the module focused on the geometry and pattern thats calculated when it comes to reading and analizing form. we started the module by practicing extensively drawing of the humanbody from different mediums such as charcoal and ink. here we focused on rethinking what we knew of not only the technique but also the understanding we had of it as a whole.Instead of seeing form as a silhouette or outline. its important to see it as something of volume.

Our main focus of the exercise was of understanding grid patterns and practicing drawing them and disecting them on different organic forms such as a fruit (apple in my case) and then we progressed to elbows on the human body.

by incorporating grids and patterns and dwawing them on our arms, in our process we made our way towards actually making a basic middle of our elbows via paper. we had to formulate a specific geometry and document it. understaning and recreating the different shapes of the muscles and contours of the bones was extremly difficult but through the idea of drawing and working with a grid, a form could be developed. Iused a series of rectangular and triangular grids to creat this form.

After working with the fundamentals of this geometry of the arm our task was to explore these forms through a creative perspective. Our next task was to mutate the elbow to fit a specfic purpose they were used for but werent efficient in. For me i had to mutate them in a way that they allowed you to press buttons.

i took in account the fact that if an elbow was to be mutated to press buttons it would have to be longer, would allow you to press buttons from multiple directions and when doing so it would be easy for you to see what you were doing.

after working my way through multiple process drawings and concepts i landed on the idea of having 2 petruding pointers , one in a liner direction of the forearm and the other on the left in order to press buttons sideways. I also incorporated the idea of having a forearm that was curved inwards in order to see the puttons you’re pointing at easily.

i used a series of triangles and trapeziums and hexagons  for the pattern and used filecard for the model.

this module helped me ynderstand the idea that any objects as they are 3 dimentional is  built by looking at the volume and their form can be translated through the language of geometry and paterns to be replicated and enhanced.
